Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States and was responsible for abolishing slavery in the United States through the enactment of the Emancipation Proclamation and the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. He also held the dubious honour of being the first president to be assassinated. This photo was taken by one of Lincoln’s best-known photographers, Alexander Gardner. Date: Nov. 8 1863.
